Importing DWG

Not sure why but lately i'm having problems Importing DWG files. All i get is a little tab that says "symbol" ?
I'm having to ask the clients for DXF files instead.

Are they sending a different version of dwg than before?

Yes, and i just figured out a temporary solution. Had to download DWG trueviewer where i can open it there and convert the DWG to an older Autocad version.
